That you have come this far is evidence enough that you are passionate about everything: Gusii.
If that is you then you are in the right place. "Eigwe kore ase aagiya" - feel most welcome. For a start, then, I desire to introduce myself then highlight on what you are most likely going to encounter inhere. My names, as you may have already known, is Shem Ageta. I live in Gisiiland and fluently speak and write in Ekegusii language. I am a college trained teacher and have served in the Kenya Air Force after training locally and overseas in warfare technology.
My world viewpoint is clearly Christian and I consider myself a God-fearing man- read loving God by serving humanity.
I preserve endangered tree species - some have known medicinal chemistry (like eritrinna abyssinica - omotembe) and others are known for ceremonial use (egesancha, esinyinte) amongst the Abagusii.
In this blog site I shall share accurate and well researched information on the origin, personalities, history -migration and settlement, language, art , food, herbs, song and dance, present day happenstances, infact, everything "Ekegusii".
I have published 7 bilingual books that deal with a plethora of topics ranging from: Ekegusii language use and grammar, ethnobotany, folklore to practical issues like recipes and money making techniques like online work and modern resource mobilization: crowdfunding also called crowd sourcing.
At the back of my mind is an understanding that we all, in our small ways, need to fight for and preserve Ekegusii - the language, the knowledge and the values it contains.
This blog site is for your entertainment, information and uniting the Gusii loving people. Finally, I have worked out my year 2020 itinerary for passing throughout Gusiiland singing, dancing, telling stories, holding competitions and eating traditional cuisines together. agetashem@gmail.com
